Most of the people in the industry offer free estimates have at lease 2 or 3 different companies doing the estimates. Schedule for a meeting, spare ample time to talk to your prospective contractors. Let your gut feeling guide you. If the builder rubs you the wrong way, decline. It is your house, you'll be the one living in it. It is but just that you're preference being carried out. Once you've selected your contractor, it's time to get down to business. Present your ideas, ask on how to go about the project with your characteristics and your personality shinning through. In the list given to me, this is the only entry in all caps...HAGGLE BUT NOT TOO MUCH. Getting the lowest estimate does not necessarily equate to saving money, on the other hand, hiring the most this is true because the costs of projects like this also depend on your negotiation skills.
